Blackwood Toasted Rye Whiskey 105 Proof is a 7YO rye whiskey distilled by an undisclosed Indiana producer and finished using Blackwood’s signature toasting process. This involves a finish in three new toasted barrels from Kelvin Cooperage: a medium toast (no char) barrel, a char 4 barrel with toasted heads and a char 2 barrel with toasted heads.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Soft notes of barrel spice and gentle florals open the nose towards sweet herbal spices and deep notes of creamy caramel and vanilla.
Palate: Mild rye notes with baking spices combine with a sense of dried florals, mints, and citrus rinds next to a soft feeling of spiced caramel cakes and sharp rye warmth.
Finish: The end softly mellows towards rich creaminess counterpointed rye spice, soft summer florals, and a hint of wet green tea.
“This is a must get for anyone who’s looking to explore into Rye you’re coming from the bourbon side.” – Fred Minnick
“It’s super spicy, but that soft, tasty sweetness really balances things out and sets this rye apart from other Indiana products around the same age” – David Morrow, The Daily Pour (92 Points)
“Blackwood Distillings first rye offering to be brought to proof is simply dazzling. While many American whiskey fans appreciate and have become accustomed to full-throated cask strength offerings, theres a ton of beauty to be found in expressions that are proofed down to reflect the producers desired flavor profile. Blackwood Distillings 105-Proof Rye exemplifies this ethos, making for a whiskey that is absolutely delicious on its own and completely killer in cocktails, too.” – Frank Dobbins III, Uproxx (20 Best New Whiskies May 2025)
