Birrificio Italiano is the brewery behind Tipopils, arguably the most imitated beer in Europe. Fleurette is what happens when those same people go completely off-script. It’s a low-alcohol spiced ale built on a malt bill with a hefty slug of rye, then flavored with whole roses and violets, honey, elderberry and black pepper. On paper that reads like potpourri; in the glass it’s amber-orange with a pink-tinged head, floral on the nose, then unexpectedly fruity orange, apricot with a peppery snap that keeps it from ever turning sweet. At around 4% you can drink it in the afternoon and still have a day. Serve it cool rather than ice-cold; the aromatics need a little room to breathe.
