Pilsner is the style with nowhere to hide: no hop wall, no barrel, no fruit to paper over the cracks. Aslan, a certified organic brewery in Bellingham, Washington, doesn’t seem worried. Coastal Pils is the house lager they clearly drink the most of themselves crisp, dry, snappy with hop bitterness, and an easygoing 4.8% that makes a second one feel like a formality. It’s clean as a bell and built for volume in the best sense. Serve it very cold, in whatever glass is nearest. This is the six-pack for the beach, the barbecue, or the couch.
