Inferno earns its name. It’s one of Valtellina’s smallest, steepest, hottest subzones, a sun-trap of terraces where the rock radiates heat back at the vines. From this dramatic site Ar.Pe.Pe. makes Fiamme Antiche (“ancient flames”), a Riserva of pure alpine Nebbiolo grown at 450 meters on south-facing slopes. Long maceration and about 12-15 months of aging in 50hL large casks and stainless steel, followed by bottle aging give it grace rather than weight. This is Nebbiolo that’s perfumed and light on its feet, yet unmistakably built to age.
