A quiet revelation from an undervalued corner of Italy: a biodynamic estate farming next door to the legendary Valentini, yet still largely undiscovered. Gaetano Carboni, a lawyer who chose winemaking, planted these vines in the early 2000s under Francesco Valentini’s guidance. Just a small share of the estate is under vine; the rest is woodland, pasture, and the diverse agricultural heritage of Abruzzo. Certified organic since 2006, the Montepulciano ferments spontaneously with native yeasts, ages nearly two years in untoasted Slavonian oak, and is bottled unfiltered. This is the antidote to mass-produced Montepulciano, complex, structured, and full of soul.
