When Nicolas Potel founded his namesake ngoce in 1997 the same year his father, the legendary Grard Potel of Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, died he opened doors that no other young Burgundian could open. Out of love for Grard, the great vignerons of the Cte let Nicolas come into their cellars and select the barrels he wanted. That access produced a remarkable run of bottlings through the early 2000s, before he sold the business to Labour-Roi in 2004, was forced out in 2009, and went on to launch Maison Roche de Bellene. Clos de Bze sits next to Le Chambertin itself the two Grand Crus considered the pinnacle of Gevrey. This is mature, fully resolved Grand Cru Burgundy from a vintage now at peak.
